Why Consider Early Cancer Screening?
Early detection remains one of the most effective ways to improve cancer survival and treatment outcomes. Singapore has well-established national screening programmes for common cancers such as breast cancer (mammogram), cervical cancer (Pap smear/HPV test), and colorectal cancer (FIT test/
colonoscopy).
However, many other cancer types — including pancreatic, liver, ovarian, and stomach cancer — currently have no routine screening pathway in Singapore, and are often only detected once symptoms appear at a later, harder-to-treat stage. Multi-Cancer Early Detection (MCED) screening was developed to help close this gap.

How Accurate is MCED Screening?
High specificity: ~99%
Less likely to produce false positive results as compared to traditional tumour markers such as CEA and CA 19-9
Relatively high overall sensitivity

LucenceINSIGHT: ~81%
Sensitivity refers to the ability to detect a disease when it is present.
The sensitivity of MCED screening tests varies depending on cancer type and stage, and may be lower in very early cancers.

Limitations of MCED Screening

Is an MCED blood test covered by MediSave or CHAS in Singapore?
No, MCED blood screening (such as SPOT-MAS and LucenceINSIGHT) is currently not covered by MediSave or national subsidy schemes like CHAS or Screen for Life (SFL). National subsidy schemes are currently limited to standard cancer screenings (e.g., mammograms, Pap smears/HPV tests, and FIT stool kits).
How does SPOT-MAS differ from LucenceINSIGHT?
The main differences lie in the number of cancers screened, detection technology, and cost. SPOT-MAS analyzes ctDNA to screen for 10 common cancers, while LucenceINSIGHT uses dual ctDNA/ctRNA technology to detect up to 50 cancer types.
How is MCED screening different from a normal cancer screening test?
Traditional cancer screening (mammogram, Pap smear, colonoscopy) targets one specific cancer type at a time. MCED screening uses a single blood test to assess risk across multiple cancer types simultaneously, including some cancers without a routine national screening pathway in Singapore.
Should I do an MCED test if I already undergo routine cancer screening?
MCED screening can complement, but does not replace routine National cancer screenings (like mammograms, Pap/HPV tests, and FIT stool kits.) MCED blood tests serve as an additive layer of protection, screening for signals of other cancers that do not have organ-specific screening, before symptoms appear.
Is fasting required for the MCED blood test?
No fasting is required for an MCED blood test alone, as food intake does not affect ctDNA analysis. However, if paired with a general health screening (like blood glucose or cholesterol), overnight fasting is still required.
How long do the MCED screening results take?
Test results typically take 12 to 18 working days from the day of your blood draw. Once your lab report is ready, our doctor will schedule a follow-up consultation to review the findings with you.
How often should MCED screening be done?
MCED screening is typically recommended once every 1 to 2 years. As cancer risks increase with age, annual or biennial testing helps to pick up signs of cancer at an earlier stage. Our doctors will discuss a suitable screening program with you based on your risk factors and medical history.
Can MCED screening diagnose cancer?
No. MCED screening is a risk-assessment tool, not a diagnostic test. A positive result requires further diagnostic investigation, and a negative result does not completely rule out cancer.
What happens if my MCED test result is positive?
Our family physicians will review your results with you and refer you for appropriate follow-up diagnostic tests to confirm or rule out the finding.
